Winner Announcement: Kaarin Birch Wins “Raffle For The Boundary Waters” & Custom Sanborn Canoe
August 17, 2023 12:16 pmCongratulations to Kaarin Birch as the lucky winner of the custom Sanborn, Trampled by Turtles, and SFBW canoe raffle!
Kaarin’s first canoe trip was in 7th grade and she grew up going to YMCA camps like Camp Menogyn, based north of Grand Marais, MN. She now has a small business that takes women into the Boundary Waters, and that grew out of taking out groups of her friends.
“I really fell in love with showing people [the BWCA] for the first time,” she says. “It got people out of their comfort zones; they were trying something they didn’t think they could do, initially.”
For folks heading into the wilderness, she says quesadillas are an underrated meal option, and she always recommends taking a fishing pole along.
“I am made to portage, and it’s my favorite part,” says Kaarin. “No matter how you use the Boundary Waters, though, Sportsmen for the Boundary Waters is important.” She says that’s because the work and policy advocacy is a benefit to all who care about wilderness conservation.
A big thanks to Kaarin and to all who donated to SFBW, raising nearly $40,000 during our Paddlin for the Boundary Waters events this summer. A special thanks to Sanborn & Merrimack Canoe and Trampled by Turtles for their partnership, which made this raffle fundraising effort a success (original posting for the raffle can be seen here).
