The Sportsman’s Pack: A Minnesota Collaboration

Combining Frost River’s expertise in crafting rugged and durable outdoor gear, SFBW’s commitment to conservation, and Trampled By Turtles’ passion for the great outdoors, the Sportsman’s Pack is a testament to the shared love for nature and adventure.

The Sportsman’s Pack is handcrafted by the skilled tradespeople of Frost River in Duluth, Minnesota. Its size makes it large within the daypack category, and its features are derived from both Canoe and Bushcraft Packs. 2-in-1 zippered side pockets allow for extra external capacity, along with a third zippered pocket at the front for quickly accessing items. Long, adjustable leather flap straps give the pack remarkable vertical expansion, and lash squares at the bottom create yet another feature for versatility.

The Sportsman’s Pack was personally field tested by the SFBW crew this year in the Boundary Waters, and we’re super excited to bring you one of the finest all-around utility packs we’ve ever used. Best of all, 10% of proceeds from each pack sold will go towards SFBW’s conservation initiatives.

Its combination of vintage charm, practical organization, two-tone Hunter Orange and Field Tan colorway, and robust build quality caters to the needs of outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate both style and reliability.

Large 2-in-1 side pockets house a Nalgene Water Bottle or fuel canisters with ease. Keep those smaller items like a fishing license, your Boundary Waters Permit, or even a small pair of binoculars quickly accessible in front zippered pocket. (You’ll notice a familiar Owl perched on this part of the pack, the logo of the folk-rock band, Trampled By Turtles.) Two heavy-duty chestnut leather lash squares are sewn to the bottom— don’t forget to grab some Bedroll Straps for lashing a sleeping roll or favorite wool blanket to the bottom.

Venturing further North on the pack, you’ll find dual lash square patches on each side of the pack above the pockets. Each durable leather patch offers two lashing points, keeping your saw or axe close to the body of the pack. A large top flap over the main compartment is sealed with long leather flap straps, offering another option for carrying gear outside of the pack. On the inside, you’ll find a handy slip pocket at the front of the main compartment as a dedicated spot for your map.
